Nature's Song

She follows slowly treading softly onto sleepy heads
A light descends from down her hands and gives rest to the flock
Her graceful words they linger in the ears of younger souls
They speak of dreams and peaceful sleep in the warm clouds of love

As night descends she works her way to the last sleeping bed
A child awake with eyes wide open seizes her surprise
'Oh child, my light, does it not soothe you, why shall you not sleep?
Is it your mind that troubles you or just the dark of night?'

' I tried, I tried, I tried so hard to fall into deep sleep.
I even tried counting sheep but sleep won't come near me.'
'Oh child, my light, how can I save you from these sleepless dreams?
I've tried the light and whispered songs but still you will not rest.'

She stood there pondering what she could possibly do more
And then it came, the brightest light and she said to the boy:
' For you my child, for this one time I'll sing you nature's song
A song unheard by those on earth and precious every word'

And so a song so warm like sunlight came from her light voice
The sound of thousand birds singing in harmony
An angel's song so soft so frail it can barely be heard
Its warmth spreading through the room engulfed in ancient holy light

The child now lies so silently with dreams of heaven's grace
Where he roams plains vast and white above the clouds we see
She walks beside him holding his hand singing as they go
A shining light all around him, sleep angel to be
