Everything goes silent
shadows come near
absolving the tears
alone in her own world
the self and her fears

She struggles in silence
but the hurt she can't hide
it flows all around her
for all eyes to see
her smile is a dark lie
her heart a machine

Inside the beasts rage
their hunger is always
her body their prey
they claw at her insides
and tear at the seams

It's coming apart now
and help seems so far
in her world is a dark thought
where she can't see the light
the brightness within her
diminished by fire

I ask for a kindness
to lay on her soul
and root out the darkness
a relief from the cold
I'll give her a warm heart
and a hand to hold
and tell her what all hearts

that warm fires burn brighter
